Research Master’s courses, leading to Bac + 5 level, are co-organised by Montpellier University and are open to agronomy engineers in their last year and to international students at the equivalent level and with equivalent training. At the end of the course students are awarded a national Master’s qualification which means they can apply to study for a PhD (Bac + 8).
At the moment Montpellier SupAgro awards Research Master’s in eight specialities jointly with Montpellier universities and other academic partners. Many of these courses are run in its facilities.
Each year between 10 and 15% of third year students at Montpellier SupAgro sign up for research courses. The current policy is to gradually increase this flow in order to meet current demand and to anticipate future needs. The school also registers about thirty students a year onto Research Master’s from other institutions.
Access to the second year of Research Master’s courses is limited to the number of places available. Selection is based on applications taking into account course marks in the first and second year. There is also an interview for many of the specialist areas.

Registration procedures
Access to the M2 year is possible for agronomy engineering students or students from French or International universities with qualifications to Bac + 4 level or equivalent as a minimum.
In order to simplify the registration procedure, students can access the steps which must be completed on the university websites where application requests are centralised. Students wishing to register at Montpellier SupAgro can do so via the registry, (violeau@supagro.inra.fr) once they have been admitted by the selection panels of the relevant specialisation.
In general students from French or International ‘Ecoles d’Ingenieurs’ (schools of agricultural engineering) and International agricultural universities are registered at Montpellier SupAgro. The admission committees are organised in June to read applications. Each candidate is individually informed of the committee’s decision.
