Institute for Higher Education in Tropical Agri-food Industry and Rural Development (IRC)

Jacques MAILLET
Director

A new entity created when the new establishment was founded, the Institute for Higher Education in Tropical Agri-food Industry and Rural Development (Institut des régions chaudes- IRC) brings together all of Montpellier SupAgro’s courses on the subjects of agriculture, rural development, and agrifood industry for the tropics and subtropics.

Heir of the founding establishments CNEARC and ENSIA-SIARC, the Institut des regions chaudes continues the tradition of supporting developing countries and took on the partnerships in place for decades with research and higher education institutions in agricultural sciences (Cirad, IRD, Montpellier Universities) within Agropolis International Association.

To fulfil these missions, the Institute develops:
    •    specific initial and ongoing education programmes,
    •    pedagogical engineering and training engineering missions, and
    •    expertise and international cooperation activities in partnerships.

The courses it offers address French students in their initial studies and those taking continuing education as well as international students.

The two engineering degrees emanate directly from the specialisations offered by Montpellier SupAgro’s founding establishments: the engineering degree in agrifood industry for tropical and subtropical regions corresponds to ENSIA-SIARC’s former degree, and the specialised engineering degree in tropical agronomy corresponds to CNEARC’s former degree.

The “Agriculture, Agronomy and Agrifood” Master’s degree whose various specialisations focus on tropical and subtropical regions and tropical agronomy is based on the 3 -year specialisations of the engineering degrees in agronomy and tropical agronomy.

Several Master’s degree specialisations are also co-accredited with the University of
Montpellier III.

The Institute also offers a catalogue of short classes, and elaborates personalised training
courses tailored to the needs of partner organisations and trainees.
