Vie étudiante

Student activity delegation

Student activity delegate: Pascal Lacince

Extra curricular activities for students are organised independently by student representatives. The school encourages and supports these activities, respecting their autonomy and in the belief that involvement in these activities, taking part in organising and running clubs and associations is useful learning and can enrich the CVs of those students who participate.

Funds to support student activities
There are many activities and clubs at Agro.M. Direct funding from the ‘Cercle des Elèves’ (student circle) provides for many cultural, social and sports clubs.. Given the number of these innovative activities which are of an educational nature ( freshers’ week, gala, sports matches with other ‘grandes écoles’) , and also other activities which are more specifically course-related ( study trips, registration on pre- professional projects, Ingénieurs Sans Frontières ( Agronomy Engineers without Borders), it was decided that a fund should be created to support student activities (FAVE Fond d’Appui à la Vie Etudiante ).

FAVE is run in a balanced way: three teachers / researchers (with three deputies) and three agronomy student representatives (with three deputies). The student activity delegate is the secretary of FAVE. Each potential project is presented and debated within the forum of this committee. Follow up and evaluation are carried out by the ‘Cercle des Elèves’ in liaison with the student activity delegate.

‘Agro-etudes’
Agro-études is the agronomy consultancy run by the agronomy engineering students at Agro.M. Working like a small business, Agro-études enjoys exceptional contacts with scientific and technical opportunities and links with people within the research establishments of Agropolis such as INRA, CEMAGREF, CIRAD, IRD, CNRS. Its status as an Association (Associations Act 1901) allows it to be particularly competitive because of the low charges it has to pay.

Ingénieurs Sans Frontières (ISF – Engineers without Borders)
ISF is a student NGO (non governmental organisation) which takes part in many international charitable projects. ISF Montpellier, in which many students from Agro.M are very active, is leading projects in Guatemala and in Senegal, and is leading activity to raise awareness about development work in France. These activities put ISF in contact with many charitable organisations in Montpellier and elsewhere.

Agropégaze (Riding club)

Yes, you can go riding at Agro.M and at a reasonable cost, thanks to the Agropégaze club! Do you wish to get back into riding after a break, take part in competitions or simply just discover this sport? The riding club at Grammont has been the main centre used by the Agro for a long time for beginners up to those at an advanced level. However if you are really tempted by treks and the great outdoors there is no problem. There is no shortage of suitable places and riding establishments in the area, especially in the Carmargue and the Cévennes.

Essor
Essor is an organisation based outside the school but which operates largely thanks to the efforts of the students of Agro.M. It is run by a retired teacher and aims to help school children who are struggling with their schoolwork in the Petit Bard neighbourhood (close to the school). Becoming a tutor of one or two school children (primary or early secondary school level), students give an hour a week to give them help with their schoolwork in the flat which belongs to the association. Do you have a little time to give to these children? Do you want to learn to learn? Essor is always looking for more help! To find out more go to the Cercle’s website which gives up to date contact details of leaders and co-ordinators of these clubs.
